Former Homewood Mayor Manny Hoffman Dies at 78

A memorial service is in the works for the former Homewood mayor who died Wednesday morning in his Florida home.

Former Homewood Village President and state representative Manny Hoffman died Wednesday morning at his Florida home, Sun-Times Media reports. He was 78.

Hoffman is well-known for his diverse and active career of service in the H-F area. Besides serving as mayor, Hoffman also was president of the H-F Park District’s Board of Commissioners, Chairman of the Cook County Republican Party and was on the board for the Cancer Support Center, Irons Oaks, and the Prairie State College Foundation, just to name a few.

. Both Hoffmans were inducted into the Homewood Heritage Committee's Hall of Fame on Oct. 19, 2008.

"Both (Judy and Manny) were great contributors to the community," Homewood Historical Society President Elaine Egdorf said in a former interview. "I think they made Homewood a fun place to be."

Hoffman is survived by his three children Larry, Debbie and Julie.

A south suburban memorial service will be scheduled, according to Hoffman’s son, Larry, and private services will be held in Florida.
