Kids aim to give Librarian purple hair in Homewood

Homewood, IL – July 7, 2014 - As part of the PAWS TO READ summer reading program, kids Pre-K through 6th grade keep track of how many minutes they read and get the chance to win some great prizes. This year, Amy Crump, head librarian of the Homewood Public Library, challenged the youngest readers of Homewood. If they can log 6,000 hours by July 27th, she will dye her hair purple. The Youth Services division of the library really wants that to happen! Sarah Gearhart, one of the youth librarians at the Homewood Library, is confident it can still happen. “In previous years participants have read the equivalent of about 5,500 hours. The kids are great readers, and when they find out that not only can they win cool stuff, but they can make a grown-up dye their hair purple, they really get into it.” As of July 7th, the children have read almost 2,500 hours.

It is not too late to sign up for the Summer Reading Program, and you can sign up 24 hours a day via the website at www.homewoodlibrary.org. Readers do not have to be Homewood Library card holders to participate. For more information or for assistance, please call the Homewood Library Youth Services department at 708-798-0121, extension 222.
