Check out this announcement to see H-F Park District Board President Bob Haderlein's public "thank you" letter to the hundreds of community members who volunteered their time to participate in the 25th anniversary of Park Pride Day on May 7. 

Local peace advocacy group Generations for Peace is seeking volunteers to help run their free "coffehouse" event on Saturday, May 21 at Water's Edge Clubhouse, 3505 Lakeview in Hazel Crest. Volunteers are needed from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Refreshments will be available to all volunteers.

South Suburban Family Shelter is seeking cell phone donations and new cell phone collection sites for their ongoing fundraising program.

Proceeds from the collection fund the critical programs and services provided to families who experience domestic violence. For information about SSFS, or to become or help identify a new collection site, contact Meilach at 708-794-2140 ext.303.

Award-winning film producer Don Hahn, photojournalist and Romanian Children’s Relief founderMichael Carroll, and Golden Apple Foundation President and CEO Dominic Belmonte will speak at Saint Xavier University’s 2011 Spring Commencement on Sun., May 15.

Hahn and Carroll will speak at the Undergraduate Ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m., and Belmonte will speak at the Graduate Ceremony, which begins at 3 p.m. Both ceremonies will be held in the Shannon Center Main Arena at SXU’s Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. All three speakers will receive honorary degrees.

Five Flossmoor and two Homewood residing Marian Catholic students were inducted into the National Honor Society during ceremonies held last week in the Sr. M. Paul McCaughey, O.P. Leadership Center. Check out the announcement to find out who these local scholars are.
