Gotta Have It Friday!

Autumn's smells of spices and leaves have NOTHING on the smell of this shampoo! Jonanthan Kane Salon and Spa.

Whoo hoo! It’s Gotta Have It Friday, where we highlight three items or services from a local store - an item that sells for under $25, one between $25-99, and one over $100.

With the Autumn weather sneaking in this week, I have been in a frenzy of gardening, cooking and organizing closets.  Well, okay, gardening, thinking about cooking and then putting three towels away in a closet, but still, it feels like a hibernation frenzy all the same.

I love closing up and finishing off the summer.  You vacuum the sand out of the car, you put away the lawn furniture, you clean up the boogie boards.  It completes your seasonal gestalt.

You deserve a little post-summer clean-up as well.  At , you can get a little clean or a lotta clean.  Let’s a take a look, shall we?

This is what I’ve Gotta Have this week:

Store:        Jonathan Kane Salon & Spa, Flossmoor

In their Flossmoor location for the past year and a half, this oasis boasts a staff who loves to pamper.  An Aveda Concept Salon, they are the purveyors of both goods and services, so JKS&S can easily fit a few different things into our categories.

Under $25

Lather, Smell, Repeat                        $10.50

Walk in, and your nose immediately picks up the signature scent of Aveda, that tart, yet flowery fragrance I like to call Well Made Hair Care Product smell.  This smell, the essence of Aveda’s product line, belongs to Shampure™ shampoo.  I have purposely kept my hair long so that I may, after shampooing, draw my locks under my nose to smell them.  Hey, it’s good to savor the small moments in your life.  This shampoo is a huge seller, as shown in my photo of the one single, lonely bottle left on their shelves as of yesterday.  But do not run to go get it, for I have purchased it and am sniffing it now, even as you read these words.  Of course there is more to put on the shelf, but for a fleeting moment, I feel I am in possession of the last bottle of shampoo, ON EARTH, and that perhaps tomorrow you will be at my door during the apocalypse*, trying to trade me precious family members for just ONE MORE SNIFF!

Even the new and very advanced Damage Remedy™ line offers shampoo or conditioner for under $25.00.  This is an intensive moisturizing line, perfect for repairing the damage your hair suffered from this summer’s swimming pool chemicals.

There’s even a line of dude stuff, known in the biz as the Men’s Line (Dude Stuff).  I’m going to TM Dude Stuff™ right now.  See?  Ha.  Woodsy, earthy, masculine tones man-up products with names like Grooming Clay and Pomade.  C’mon, you’re not fooling anyone!  You like hair goop just as much as I do!  And you can get any goop you want for under $25.00.

*when the world starts to cave in upon itself and we are left with no decent hair care products.  Fire, brimstone AND fly-away hair?  I DON’T THNK SO!

$25 - $99

Derma-teasers                            $38.00 to $45.00

I love appetizers.  And travel sizes and samples.  And tapas.  And those little baby bottles of gin.  Perhaps I have a problem with commitment, but more likely, I like to sample the bounty that Life has to offer.  In little bitty tastes.  This is why the Skin Care Kits appealed to me.  These four-step skin care kits can run from $38.00 - $45.00, and include a sample of four different products.  These are the same products they use in their facial services.  For some people, there’s nothing quite as relaxing as someone fussing over their face.  I am one of those people, because anything put on my face that does not require removal with a little spit on a tissue is O.K. in my book, and a welcome change.  You can get a 25 minute facial for $55.00 and then bring home a kit, to maintain the regime, and you’re still coming in at less than our $99.00 mark.  Begin the Regime!

There’s also loads of hair care - cuts, styles, colors - that can be had for less than $99.00, which is just one more reason to stay in the SouthLand and shop locally, instead of hoofing it up to The City for haughtier prices for a worse cut.

$100 +

I Can’t Think of a Couple’s Massage Pun        $180.00

Bringing more money with you to a spa will get you more spa-ing.  That’s a fact.  Granted, every facet of pamperdom at JKS&S is available to you for under $100.00, which makes this a particularly accessible place to visit.  You can even mix and match products and services and still only write a check with two numbers in front of the decimal point.  But if you want to spend more time, get more rubbed or foiled or polished or have your chakras balanced, you have the opportunity to up-grade.

There are several massage rooms, but the largest one is used for couple’s message.  Two tables are brought in, and you and a friend or spouse or S.O. can have simultaneous rubdowns.  This is probably sweet and intimate for couples, but I know that I would forget about my husband as soon as my first shoulder knot started getting worked on, and I’d probably be startled to see him at the end of the session.  But the idea of both of us relaxing in a room where no one is watching Sponge Bob has an allure that I can’t quite shake.  Plus, you don’t get ejected out into the bright sunlight immediately afterwards.  You get to relax in a softly lit, quiet room, full of therapeutic smells and reclining chairs.  Heaven.

Something I really like in a neighborhood business, or any business, for that matter, is the ability to reach out into the community it serves.  JKS&S works both globally, through Aveda’s Earth and Community Care programs, and also locally - their September Charity is the Homewood School District #153 Fine Arts Program.  They’re also an official Locks of Love salon.

Stop in for a full brochure of services and check out the Amazing Whirly Tower of Travel Sizes (remember what I said about tapas!)!  The salon offers specials and events, so check out their Facebook page for more information or sign up on the website for their newsletter.

Remember to tell them you saw them here on the Patch!
