140 Grams of Weed Dug Up During Traffic Stop: Blotter

A Chicago Heights man allegedly was busted with more than 140 grams of pot, according to Homewood police.

Jeffrey Bentley, 29, of the 300 block of Coolidge, was charged with possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and speeding, according to a report.

An officer reportedly clocked a car traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone on June 7. Police said they noticed the speeding car at about 1:35 p.m. in the 18000 block of Governors Highway.

Police who stopped the car smelled marijuana coming from it, the report states. They determined that Bentley's license was suspended. Police said they found a small baggie of 7.5 grams of a substance that field tested positive for marijuana during a pat down.

Officers who searched the car found 137 grams of a similar substance that also tested positive for marijuana, the report states.

Bently was due on July 7 in Cook County court.
