3 Busted in Stolen Car by Homewood Cops

Police said a convertible they stopped on Nov. 4 was reported stolen. The driver and two passengers were charged with trespassing.

Three passengers in a convertible reported stolen out of Ohio faces charges after Homewood police pulled them over earlier this week.

A blue Chrysler convertible spotted traveling at a high rate of speed at about 9:32 a.m. on Nov. 4 on Dixie Highway was clocked doing 47 mph in a 35 mph zone, the report states. Police pulled the car over in the 17400 block of Dixie Highway a short time later.

Police discovered that the driver, Aubrey Burks, 21, of the 100 block of East 155th Street, Harvey, was wanted on a Harvey warrant for driving without a license, the report states. The officer was then notified that the car was reported stolen out of Marion, OH. The driver, and two passengers were arrested and taken to the Homewood Police Department for booking. Police searched the car and found that the steering column wasn’t damaged and that the driver had a key.

The driver claimed that a man named Devin had let them use the convertible, the report states.

Cops spoke with the owners in Ohio who said they did not know anyone named Devin and confirmed that their car was stolen, the report states.

All three occupants of the car were charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle, the report states. The two passengers were Kahdafy Burks, 28, of the 100 block of West 157th Street, Harvey, Anthony McCallum, 19, of the 3500 block of West 162nd Street, Markham. Burks also was charged with speeding and driving with a suspended license.

The three are due on Dec. 2 in Markham court.
