9mm Casings Found Near School

Two 9mm bullet casings were found on the ground near a soccer net at Flossmoor Hills Elementary School, according to a report. A man walking his dog at about 11 a.m found the casings. Police had received a report of shots fired on March 15 in the area of 707 Elm St., which is located across the street from the school.

THURSDAY, MARCH 14

Taser Used In DUI Stop

Edward D. Branch, 28, of the 3500 block of 192nd Street in Homewood, was charged with driving under the influence, resisting or obstructing a police officer and driving with a suspended or revoked license, according to a report. Police stopped Branch at about 10:26 p.m. near 19880 Crawford Ave. Officers had tried to arrest Branch, who was found to have a suspended license, but were met with resistance. One officer used a taser and missed. Backup was called to arrest Branch.

MONDAY, MARCH 11

Two DUI Charges

Alfredrick Hughes, 50, of the 18500 block of Western Avenue in Homewood, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, failure to signal and driving without proof of insurance, according to a report. Police stopped Hughes at about 8:53 p.m. near the intersection of Flossmoor Road and Sterling Avenue after he failed to use a signal while making a right turn. Police said he spoke with slurred speech. Hughes was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was arrested. During the arrest, he also was given a breath test that resulted in a 0.233.
