A.C. Thefts Leave Man in Hot Water

A Chicago man was charged with theft after police say he stole two air conditioning units from a Flossmoor home and was caught in the act of installing them in another residence, police said.

THURSDAY, JULY 7

James Xavier Floyd, 32, of the 7300 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, was found installing a stolen air conditioning unit at a home in Country Club Hills, according to the report. Another air conditioning unit was visible inside Floyd's white 2000 Chevy Astro Van, police said.

Police said they made rapid progress in the case because of a tipster who told them the units had just been taken from a home in the 1300 block of Amery Court, and that the white van was headed to Country Club Hills. When an officer went to the Amery address, that officer discovered the two units missing from the north side of the residence, with copper lines freshly cut, police said.

The concerned tipster told officers that the two suspects were driving a white van with an orange ladder on top. That citizen was able to identify Floyd and another man, police said. The second man, also a Chicagoan, was not charged as he was not believed to be implicated in the theft, police said.

Both Goodman air conditioning units were valued at $800, police said.
