Cop Hit by Car During Holiday Ceremony

The officer wasn't hurt and several witnesses shouted out the license plate number, allowing police to find the driver.

A officer pushed pedestrians out of the way and was struck by a moving car on Friday evening, Dec. 2, during the holiday lighting ceremony.

The car drove away but police found Jahlil Beymuhammed, 23, of the 3700 block of 217th Street in Matteson, and issued several citations.

The officer was not reported injured.

Other pedestrians shouted out the woman’s license plate number before she drove away, helping officers to identify the car later, according to the report.

Police said Beymuhammed drove through the crosswalk around 7:30 p.m., striking a traffic officer in the leg and body with her tire, door and side mirror. She kept driving, but was stopped a few blocks away.

Beymuhammed was charged with reckless driving, disobeying a police officer and failure to give information/aid after an accident. She was also charged with driving without insurance and no driver’s license on person.
