Crest Hill Driver Charged with DUI after Rear-end Crash: Blotter

Homewood police reports, March 20-23.

SATURDAY, MARCH 23

Marijuana Bust

John Campbell, 43, of the 4400 block of Wabash in Hammond, IN, was charged with possession of marijuana, according to a police report. Police said they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Campbell's car, which was parked at about 8:54 p.m. in a parking lot on 184th Street. A search of the car turned up a baggie with 15 grams of a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana. He is due in Markham court on May 8.

DUI Charge After Crash

Aaron Ruddy, 27, of the 1600 block of Marlboro in Crest Hill, was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash, failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash and driving without insurance, according to a report. Ruddy was involved in a rear-end crash at about 3:58 a.m. at the intersection of 183rd Street and Kedzie Avenue. Police said he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Ruddy failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test. He is due in Markham court on April 23.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20

Camcorder Theft

Dennis Guider, 19, of the 200 block of West 15th Street in Chicago Heights, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. He is accused of taking an Emerson Camcorder worth $49.99 at about 11:56 a.m. from Menard's, 17545 Halsted St. Guider was due in Markham court on March 21.
