Double DUI and One Hot Dog: Homewood Police Blotter

TUESDAY, MAY 29

Bush Whacker

Richard McCracken, 18, of 18545 Page Ave., Homewood, was charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor. Police, responding to a complaint of a fight in the 1800 block of 183rd Street, found McCracken intoxicated and hiding behind bushes in the front yard. He reportedly was uncooperative, yelled and created another disturbance so police took him into custody. Two juvenile males, one of whom fought with McCracken, were located inside the residence. Each received municipal violation citations for underage consumption of alcohol, police said.

SUNDAY, MAY 27

Hot Dog

A woman was cited for confining an animal in a motor vehicle under extreme conditions without proper ventilation. A Good Samaritan confronted the woman who left her boxer inside a black vehicle “with minimal fresh air” on a 97-degree afternoon, police said. “Oh he’ll be fine,” was reportedly the woman’s response when warned her dog could die inside the vehicle which was left in direct sunlight at 4:40 p.m. The witness told police the dog was panting heavily, drooling and appeared lethargic when the woman emerged from Jewel, 17705 Halsted, and drove away about 15 minutes later.

DUI

Emilio Chavez, 18, 950 Coach Road, Homewood, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage. Police said they saw Chavez’s vehicle weaving as he headed north on Reigel Road near 191st Street at 4:12 a.m. He smelled of alcohol, had glassy, bloodshot eyes and failed field sobriety tests, according to the police report.

U under arrest

Tony Collaro, 53, of 1706 East End Avenue in Chicago Heights, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol at 1:20 a.m. Collaro tried to make a U-turn when he saw police conducting a roadside seat belt check near 179th Street and Dixie Highway, but officers waved for him to keep moving ahead toward the safety check. Police smelled cannabis as Collaro entered the checkpoint. Officers found a glass pipe in the vehicle which they said was filled with cannabis and Collaro admitted he’d consumed alcohol and smoked cannabis, police said.
