Roy Burks, 37, of Richton Park, used his drug-screening business to steal identities, the Attorney General alleges.

A Richton Park man hooked scammers up with illegal Comcast cable service by stealing the identities of people who used his drug-screening business.

Roy Burks, 37, owned "Plus and Minus," a drug-testing company, and he took customers' names, Social Security numbers and birth dates, according to the Illinois Attorney General's office.

Burks then used the information to set up Comcast accounts for people with bad credit, opening more than 300 accounts, the attorney general alleges, and charging people $100 each. The identities of 230 people were stolen, but the scam unraveled when Comcast began reaching out to the people whose identities were stolen about unpaid bills.

Burks is charged with identity theft, theft by deception and wire fraud.

I would say that he probably had a good idea for a legitimate business, but found a way to scam people through it. Very sad because he might have made something of himself, and now he'll probably go to jail.

I refuse to give S.S. number all the time. When asked why I explain you can't use to find me so you don't need it. I have never been turned away or refused a service/product.

S.S. number should only be given to your employer and your bank or any other source of INCOME for reporting to the government. I tell anyone else that it's against the law to ask for this information. The companies that hired Plus and Minus to do drug testing should have investigated the background of Plus and Minus before they hired P&M. The HR department should be accountable for sloppy work and should now set up an account for ID Fraud for all the people tested.
