MONDAY, JULY 2

Basketball Charity Scam

Jason Barnett, 19, 17 W. 114th Street, Chicago, was charged with criminal trespass to property at 1:21 p.m. He and a juvenile, whose name was not released, were seen soliciting customers for money at Jewel-Osco, 17705 Halsted Street, using a flyer to promote a fake basketball charity. Police said no actual basketball team exists and the two were asking for money for a fake cause. Barnett was charged for the same offense June 29 outside of a business in the 17900 block of Halsted Street, as was a second unnamed offender, police said. Both men were also cited with soliciting without a license at 5 p.m., June 29, police said.

Trespassing at TJ Maxx

Brian Jones, 18, of 21 W. 114th Street in Chicago, was charged with criminal trespass to property at 12:45 p.m. Jones went to TJ Maxx, 17900 Halsted Street where, on June 29 he was told not to return, police said.

SUNDAY, JULY 1

Drunk Driver Caught Weaving In and Out of Lanes

Jervon Adams, 36, 4108 W. 137th Street, Robbins, was charged with DUI after police saw the vehicle he drove weaving and crossing over the double yellow median lines into the opposite lanes at 2:08 a.m. Adams smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred his speech and failed field sobriety, according to the police report. He had a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) of .180, police said. He was also charged with improper lane usage, failure to provide proof of insurance and driving with a BAC over .180. He has a court date of August 20 at the 6th Municipal District Cook County Courthouse in Markham.

Drunk Woman Throws Hammer at Vehicle

Yesenia Montejano, 20, 19048 Jonathan Lane, Homewood, was charged with criminal damage to property and unlawful consumption of an alcoholic beverage at 4:49 a.m. Montejano got into an argument with her sister and her sister’s boyfriend and swore at her and used a racial slur against him, police said. She then threw an object, possibly a hammer at a vehicle her sister was sitting in, police said, and struck the windshield with her fists. A hammer was recovered from the driveway where the alleged incident occurred.

Bad Parking Lot Driver Caught with Marijuana

Glenn Brawner-Martinez, 26, 8259 S. Ridgeland Avenue, Chicago, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after he sped through the parking lot on the south side of 183rd Street, entered the roadway without stopping and crossed all lanes of traffic to enter the parking lot of 7-Eleven, 3154 W. 183rd Street. Police said Brawner-Martinez jumped from his vehicle around 9:43 p.m. and began to enter the convenience store when police ordered him back. Police found Brawner-Martinez in possession of 3.8 grams of pot, a glass pipe, metal grinder and multiple packages of rolling papers. He was also charged with improper lane usage, driving without a driver’s license on his person and driving an uninsured motor vehicle. He has a July 24 court date in Markham.
