DUI Charge for Flossmoor Driver Headed Home from the Bar: Blotter

A Flossmoor man who told cops he was heading home from the bar is accused of drunken driving and possessing pot, police said.

William Swetz, 23, of the 2800 block of Perry Road, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol greater than 0.08, possessing marijuana, possessing drug paraphernalia and speeding, Homewood police said.

Cops stopped Swetz at about 1:09 a.m. on Sept. 5 after clocking his car traveling 41 mph in a 25 mph zone near the 18300 block of Dixie Highway, police said.

An officer who spoke with Swetz said he had glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath. Swetz reportedly said he was driving home after drinking four beers at a Homewood bar. He was asked to perform tests for sobriety, which he failed.

Officers arrested Swetz and searched his car, at which point they recovered a multi-colored pipe and a small baggie of a substance that field tested positive for marijuana, police said.

While at the Homewood Police Department for booking, Swetz took a breath test that resulted in a 0.144, police said. He was released and is due on Oct. 21 in Markham court.
