SATURDAY, SEPT. 3

Driving Under The Influence Of Drugs

Matthew Lewis, 20, of the 3200 block of Woodworth Place, Hazel Crest, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possessing drug paraphernalia, screeching tires and improper lane use, according to a Homewood police report. Police saw a car accelerate aggressively after stopping for a red light at 2:23 a.m. at the intersection of 175th Street and Halsted Street. Cops followed the car and watched as food wrappers were tossed out through the front passenger window.

An officer stopped the car and reported smelling a strong odor of burnt marijuana, police said. The driver, Lewis, told the cop he had smoked two "blunts" about two hours before the stop. He was arrested after he had to stop taking tests for intoxication that cops had asked him to perform.
