SATURDAY, SEPT. 24

Retail Theft at Menards

Ivan Muhammad, 38, of the 100 block of W. 157th Street in Harvey, was charged with retail theft after security at Menards, 17545 Halsted St., reported seeing him remove miscellaneous construction materials, valued about $169, without paying for them.

Retail Theft at Kmart

Lanesha Berry, 21, of the 7300 block of S. Coles in Chicago, was charged with retail theft after security at Kmart, 17550 Halsted St., reported seeing her place merchandise—mostly baby items—valued at about $115, in her purse and leave the store without paying, at about 10:15 p.m. Berry then ran from the store to 175th Street, where she was picked up and proceeded southbound on Halsted Street, police said. Police observed the vehicle enter the Home Depot parking lot, 17845 Halsted St., and as the officer pulled up behind it with emergency lights activated, Berry got out of the car and ran to the back of the store, police said. The stolen merchandise was recovered from the back of the vehicle and the officer waited outside until Berry exited the store, the report said.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 23

Theft from Yard

A resident on the 1900 block of Olive Road reported two white metal decorative lawn pieces, valued at $50, had been taken from his yard. He said one was a wheelbarrow, the other an ice cream chair.

Retail Theft at Radio Shack

The manager at Radio Shack, 17759 Halsted St., reported that after reviewing security camera footage on Sept. 23, he observed a man conceal merchandise in his coat and pants and exit the store without paying between 3:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sept. 22. A digital security camera and two radio scanners were reported stolen.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 22

Burglary to Vehicles

  • A resident of the 18500 block of Cowing Court reported that sometime between 10 p.m. Sept. 20 and 8 a.m. Sept. 21, someone entered his unlocked vehicle in his driveway and threw all the contents of his center console on the passenger seat and floor and took cash that was in the console. The amount of cash taken was not disclosed by police.
  • A resident of the 18500 block of Martin Avenue reported to police that sometime between 1 p.m. Sept. 19 and 9 a.m. Sept. 21, someone entered her unlocked vehicle in the driveway and removed all the contents of her center console, leaving some of the items on the passenger seat and floor and taking other undisclosed items.
  • Between noon Sept. 19 and 2:45 p.m. Sept. 22, someone entered an unlocked vehicle on the 18600 block of Lexington Avenue and removed about $2 in change from the center console, according to a police report. Items were moved around, but nothing else was reported missing.

DUI

Nicholas Maggio, 34, of the 400 block of W. 15th Street in Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop on the 18600 block of Harwood just before 1 a.m. Maggio failed field sobriety tests and refused a breath test, police said.

Retail Theft

Danielle Golik, 33, of the 100 block of Laura Lane in Thornton, was charged with retail theft after security at Kmart, 17550 Halsted St., reported seeing her concealing clothing items, valued at about $274, in plastic bags and then leave the store without paying for them.

Child Endangerment

Nina Smith, 49, of the 17200 block of Hawthorne Drive in East Hazel Crest, was charged with endangering the health of a child after leaving two juveniles unattended in her vehicle for at least 30 minutes while she was inside Walgreens, 18300 Governors Hwy., police said.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 21

Felony Theft

Jeremy Miller, 28, of the 100 block of E. Joe Orr Road in Chicago Heights, was charged with felony theft after police said he was found in possession of items taken from two unlocked cars between 7 p.m. Sept. 20 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 21. A laptop was reported stolen from a vehicle on the 2200 block of Heather Road and an iPad and loose coins were reported taken from a vehicle on the 19100 block of Pierce Court. Police said Miller was charged with theft because he did not admit to going in the vehicles, but he was in possession of the stolen items.
