FEMA Makes Over $100K Investment in Flossmoor Fire Department

The money comes from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is giving $106,400 to the Flossmoor Fire Department for operations and funding, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly announced in a joint press release.

"From the bombing in Boston, to the plant explosion in Texas, to the massive flooding we’ve experienced here in Illinois, recent events have underscored the vital role our first-responders play on the front lines of disasters,” Kelly said in the release. “Now more than ever it’s important that our firefighters have the equipment and support they need to respond to emergencies. This funding will help in that effort.”

The funding comes from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Since 2001, the program has invested roughly $5.25 billion of federal funds in supporting first-responder organizations across the country.
