Hammer Ends Fight over Bowling Bet: Police

A 22-year-old University Park man claimed he was helping a friend when he pulled a hammer during a fight at a bowling alley.

Michael Williams of the 900 block of White Oak is charged with aggravated assault, according to Homewood police. Another man, 43-year-old Haver Walker of the 300 block of 151st Place, Harvey, was charged with battery in the same Feb. 18 tussle.

An employee at Brunswick Zone, 3043 183rd St., told police the men were arguing untill Walker allegedly grabbed and pushed one unidentified man. Walker reportedly told police the disagreement started over money owed on a bowling game bet.

Williams, who later told police the pushed man was his friend, had snatched a hammer from his backpack and slammed it on the table, while threatening to hit Walker. According to police, Williams claimed he kept the hammer in his book bag for protection.

Williams was booked on the aggravated assault charge and is due in Markham court on March 15. Walker is set to appear in court on March 15 for his battery charge.

Both men posted bond and were released.
