A basement fire was reported around 8 a.m. earlier today on the 18000 block of Hood Ave in Homewood.
, all occupants had already exited by the time firefighters arrived.
Homewood Deputy Fire Chief Clint Johnson said a preliminary investigation suggests the fire started from the clothes dryer machine. The fire then reached the first floor through a plumbing wall, causing extensive damage to the house, according to Johnson.
