Flossmoor Men Fight Homewood Officers

Homewood police resorted to taser weapons to deal with a hostile Flossmoor man.

Christian Gardner, 21, of the 1400 block of Lawrence Crescent, Flossmoor, was charged with disarming a peace officer Class 1 and Class 2, two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and two counts of resisting a peace officer after a traffic stop at 183rd and Gottschalk about 12:30 a.m. Capriest Gardner, 18, of the same address, was charged with two counts of resisting/obstructing.

The arrests came after responded to a call for assistance from Thornton Police who had been trying to pull over a driver refusing to stop. Homewood police joined in at about 183rd and Riegel and the vehicle finally stopped at 183rd and Gottschalk, according to the report. However, the driver, Christian, refused to exit vehicle and had to be pulled out by an officer, who Christian then proceeded to punch and kick and take his baton, the report said. When a second Homewood officer arrived to assist, Christian continued to kick and punch both officers, slamming one of them to the ground. Officers had to use their taser guns to subdue the driver and handcuff him, the report said.

During this time, Capriest had exited the passenger side and was fighting with two other officers, who handcuffed him, according to the report.

At the police station, Christian continued to play hard ball, refusing to exit the police car and walk into lock-up on his own, the report said. He refused to answer questions and was stomping his feet on the ground, making biting gestures in the air and mouthing words “I love you” to the booking room camera, according to the report. Capriest was also acting like he was having psychological problems so the was called and both men were taken to South Suburban Hospital, but not without incident. Christian had to be forcibly restrained to the gurney by four paramedics and three police officers. Capriest walked to the gurney and was restrained by paramedics. Both were released from South Suburban and returned to Homewood police where they were charged.
