Sloppy Thieves; Stolen Identity: Flossmoor Police Blotter

Flossmoor police reports: March 7–14.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14

Credit Card Fraud

A woman from the 18100 block of Avers Avenue in Flossmoor reported a $1,000 transfer was made from her savings account to her checking account. Purchases were made for $1,004.64 and $204.64 at Walmart, as well as three other purchases, the woman told police.

Man Out of Nearly $3,000

After a wallet containing bank information and a Social Security card was stolen from a man from the 800 block of Elm Street in Flossmoor, unauthorized transactions totaling $2,964 showed up on his account days later, according to police. The transactions took place between March 7 and March 9.

Sloppy Thieves Make Off with $4,000

A man from the 2800 block of Macheath Crescent in Flossmoor reported a check written for $4,000 was cashed on his account. The man told police he reviewed the check and his name was spelled incorrectly and he didn't know the person the check was made out to.

THURSDAY, MARCH 8

Banking Scam Doesn't Pan Out

A woman said her elderly mother's identity was stolen and someone attempted to cash 14 checks on her bank account, according to reports. The bank did not cash the checks after staff became suspicious of the unusually high dollar amounts, the report stated.

Officers Forcibly Remove Sleeping Man from Car

Preston Dane Sparkman, 25, of the 1300 block of Hamlin Avenue was arrested on a trespassing charge at about 6:55 a.m. Sparkman was reportedly sleeping in a car on the property and would not comply with police when asked to exit the vehicle. Officers had to use a "vehicle access device" to open the door, according to reports.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7

Man Says Identity Stolen While He Was in Jail

A man from the 1800 block of Oak Lane Road told police that a bank account and several utilities accounts had been opened in his name between April 2008 and October 2010. The man said he had been incarcerated from 1997 to 2010.
