TUESDAY, JULY 26

Honest Citizens Return Man's Stolen Property

A Flossmoor resident whose wallet, identification and debit cards were stolen from his vehicle got some of his property back after it was found by honest citizens, police said.  A resident living in the 2600 block of Brassie contacted police to tell them he'd found an identification card near his residence, according to the report. Police went to the address in the 2600 block of 2nd Private Road listed on that card and showed it to the owner, who had not realized it was missing, police said. The man then discovered his wallet missing from his black 2003 Honda Acura, which had been parked in his driveway and left unlocked overnight, according to the report. Later, another resident on Brassie Avenue found eight debit cards in some shrubbery and reported it to police, who returned them to the theft victim.

MONDAY, JULY 25

A Flossmoor resident told police his Chase Bank Visa card was used for three transactions through Paypal, although he never authorized those online transactions, police said. The man said Chase notified him that there were three separate transactions, each time to purchase Apple products: on June 25, $893, for a Apple MacBook Pro; on July 5, $1,045.20, for an Apple I-Pad 2; and on July 14, $815.18 was debited to purchase an Apple MacBook Pro, police said. All were shipped to a “Kevin Grevan” in Matteson, Illinois on 800 Rose Lane Avenue, according to the report. The resident told police he did not know any such person, and had not allowed anyone to use his card, police said. Chase closed the account and issued him a different card.

Helpful Jogger Returns Stolen I-Pass

A Flossmoor woman who left her Toyota Highlander unlocked in her driveway discovered her glovebox and console rifled through and her I-Pass transponder stolen, police said.  However, a jogger exercising in the area told the police officer that she'd found an I-Pass transponder in the street, according to the report. The officer took it back to the 900 block of Maple Road and the theft victim identified it as her property, police said.

FRIDAY, JULY 22

Idlewild Burglary:  Briefcase Taken, Cash Ignored

A Munster, Ind. man was disappointed to find his 2011 GMC Yukon was burglarized and a suitcase containing his laptop was stolen, police said. It happened Friday, July 22 between 5:45 p.m. and 6:50 p.m. at the Idlewild Country Club, according to the report. Police found the rear passenger side window was broken. The man told police that curiously, checkbooks and cash inside his vehicle were not taken, police said.

THURSDAY, JULY 21

Grandfather's Lunch With Grandchild Marred By Auto Theft

A grandfather who shared a lunch with his daughter and grandchild at his Flossmoor office found the visit marred when his daughter's car was stolen, police said.  The man's adult daughter, who lives in Gary, Ind., said her 1998 green Ford Contour passenger car disappeared from its parking place outside the building in the 1800 block of Dixie Highway, police said. The woman told investigators that she was distracted while taking the baby from the vehicle and may have left her keys in the car, according to the report. She told police she purchased the vehicle July 14 and it was temporarily registered to her father's office address, adding that no one else has keys to the car, police said.

A.C. Vandal Inconveniences Flossmoor Woman

A Flossmoor resident living in the 1600 block of Holbrook Road told police that someone swiped copper piping from her air conditioner, causing it to malfunction, according to the report. The woman estimates the metal theft occurred around July 15 and July 21, police said. After noticing that the air conditioning unit was not working properly, the woman found that three feet of copper pipe had been removed, according to the report.
