Lock Safe, Throw Away the Key?

On Sunday afternoon, a Flossmoor man discovered a Honeywell strongbox near the beginning of the bike trail at Cambridge Avenue and Hanover Lane, police said. The safe is described as gray, weighing about two pounds, with damage on one side, according to police reports. The safe's key is missing, and its contents, if any, remain a mystery, police said.  Police said they plan to attempt to open the safe and hope to identify the owner. If anyone has information about this safe, he or she should contact the Flossmoor Police Department.

Mother-Daughter Quidditch Match

Flossmoor police, responding to a domestic call on Woodhollow Drive, discovered an upset mother who confessed to repeatedly trying to subdue her teenager with a broomstick, according to the report.  The teen had told her mother she needed to go to the Flossmoor Library, according to police. Police said the mother agreed and loaned her daughter a cell phone, then belatedly realized that the library was closed on Sunday. Later, the mother picked up her daughter from another location and the two argued, police said.  Finally, the mother whacked her teenager four times on the left side with the broomstick, said police. Police did not see any marks on the teen, but DCFS was contacted, according to the report. Asked for her take on Sunday's events, the teen told police that she does not want to live at home anymore, and her mother is trying to control her life, according to the report.

Smoking Marijuana And Pretending To Be Polish

A Flossmoor man who allegedly brought marijuana and alcohol to an outing with his girlfriend and her young child, then fled police and a canine unit, now faces multiple charges, according to police.

That girlfriend is also charged, police said.

Trevor A. O'Donnell, of the 2900 block of  Macheath Crescent, was arrested Thursday and charged with possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, obstruction by giving false identification, driving with a revoked license and having an open container of alcohol, police said.

Ashley N. Nickerson, 23, of the 2200 block of 185th Place in Lansing, was charged with child endangerment and DCFS is investigating, police said.

All charges stem from an incident Monday at the pumping station near Lawrence and Larkspur in Hazel Crest. An officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from a parked car, which contained O'Donnell, Nickerson, and Nickerson's sleeping preschool-aged child in a rear car seat, police said. The officer then spotted an open can of Icehouse beer on the center console, according to the report. When asked to identify himself, O'Donnell gave police a Polish surname, which did not match LEADS database records.  The officer, unconvinced that O'Donnell was Polish, warned him he could be arrested for giving false information, police said.  A second officer who had responded to the scene discovered a clear plastic bag of marijuana in the back seat,  and O'Donnell fled west from the vehicle, police said.  Nickerson then gave police O'Donnell's correct name, adding that she disapproved of marijuana use, but hoped permitting it would improve their strained relationship, said police. O'Donnell's car was towed, but he later retrieved it and was driving it when police found him Thursday with Nickerson, according to the report.
