Racial Slur Leads to Assault Charge: Flossmoor Police Blotter

Flossmoor police reports: March 1–6.

MONDAY, MARCH 5

Teen's Room Burglarized

A $400 PlayStation 3, a laptop valued at $800, a $400 watch, an estimated $100 in video games and a $130 jacket were stolen from a home in the 1700 block of Sylvia Court. The victims told police items were stolen only from one bedroom in the house.

Teens in Possession of Pot, Alcohol

Two 19-year-olds were cited for various charges after police pulled them over for going 52 mph in a 35 mph zone near Vollmer Road and Kedzie Avenue at about 11:50 p.m. Xavier C. Tolbert of Olympia Fields was cited for speeding, possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol. Randy Berryhill of Calumet Park was cited for possession of marijuana.

Racial Slur Nets Assault Charge

Phillip S. Lane, 23, of the 2600 block of Central Drive in Flossmoor was arrested on assault and disorderly conduct charges at about 9:55 a.m. March 3. A neighbor reported loud noises coming from Lane's apartment and when officers responded, they reportedly observed Lane in his kitchen in a "highly agitated state" with objects thrown around. When officers advised Lane to lower his voice, he responded, "What the [expletive] you gonna do, arrest me." Officers took Lane into custody.

Later, the neighbor who reported Lane told police he told her, "N---, I'm gonna put a bullet in your head." When questioned about the statement, Lane told police it was an "empty threat," according to reports. He was subsequently charged with assault.

SATURDAY, MARCH 3

Resisting Arrest Ends in Stun Gun Use

James W. Hilty, 33, of the 1500 block of Burr Oak Road in Homewood was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer at about 10:02 p.m. An officer believed Hilty may have been about to burglarize a store in the 3200 block of Flossmoor Road and made a suspicious person stop, according to reports. Officers then discovered Hilty had a warrant issued out of Cook County. When police attempted to take Hilty in custody, he repeatedly pulled away prompting officers to use a stun gun on him.

Felony possession of a controlled substance charges are pending lab results of a bottle of pills reportedly found on Hilty.

THURSDAY, MARCH 1

Texting While Driving

Dallas E. Tharbs, 25, of Chicago Heights was arrested for driving with a suspended license, no insurance, resisting arrest and texting while driving after police spotted him driving in the 1000 block of Western while texting on his cell phone at about 3:47 p.m., according to reports. Officers said Tharbs would not comply when police attempted to place his hands behind his back at the scene and would not comply with officers once he was transported to lock-up.
