Flossmoor Police Blotter: Was Man Really Beaten with Baseball Bat?

Flossmoor police reports, Nov. 11-15

TUESDAY, NOV. 15

True Lies?

Although a 27-year-old Harvey man told police he was beaten without reason in front of the H-F Ice Arena, police said they have good reason to doubt his tale.

According to the report, the man said he and a woman were leaving a friend’s party and walking south on Kedzie Avenue around 2 a.m. when a group of four men—two black, two Hispanic—approached and hit him in the back of the neck with a baseball bat.

However, the reporting officer said he could find no signs of swelling, redness or bruising on the man’s neck after taking him to the emergency room. Moreover, the name of the friend who allegedly lived close to the attack did not register to any known address in the area, according to the report.

Police said they combed the area with a description of the attackers and their get-away car, but did not find either, and advised the man and woman, whose testimony was consistent, to come back to the station for further questioning.

Theft

Montrell D. Hall, 19, of the 1700 block of Richards Court in Flossmoor, was charged with two counts of theft. Police said Hall gave instructions to burglars about where to find valuable materials in the home he was living in on Nov. 5. The homeowner told police that an Apple iPad and a book of checks were stolen that morning while she gave Hall a ride to Chicago. There were no signs of forced entry in the home, but several windows had been left unlocked, police said.

Stolen Bike

A student at H-F High School told police his green-and-black, six-speed bike was stolen from school grounds between 1:30 and 3 p.m. The boy and his father could not provide police with a make, model or serial number, but noted its chipping paint, according to the report.

Burglary

Police said a home in the 18800 block of Harding Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The homeowner reported a 32-inch black LG television, Bulls 1989 Starter jacket and Motorola cell phone missing from the living and dining rooms, and told police she might have left her front door open before leaving for work.

Juvie Drug Tickets

Two boys, aged 15 and 16, were issued drug-related tickets. Police said they were called to H-F High School around 11:30 a.m. after a teacher found 1 gram of marijuana and a glass pipe on one of the boys, and 3 grams of marijuana on the other. One of the boys said he was planning to sell the drugs to raise money for a video game.

ID Theft

A 62-year-old man told police that someone used his credit card on seven separate occasions between Oct. 20 and Nov. 9 without his permission. In total, the man reported about $4,000 in fraudulent charges on his credit card account. He was advised to contact credit reporting bureaus about putting his name on a fraud alert, according to the report.
