Glenwood Man Charged with Cannabis Possession

A 19-year-old Glenwood man was charged with possession of cannabis after police found him and a companion sitting in a car near Flossmoor Hills Elementary School. Lontrell D. Mace, of the 900 block of Arquilla Drive, was charged after police found a plastic bag containing cannabis in the parked vehicle, according to the report. Mace and his friend also had a bottle of Effen Vodka, police said. Mace is scheduled to appear at Flossmoor Village Hall on Sept. 1 for the cannabis charge.

Girlfriend's Car Lost and Found

A Homewood man who borrowed his girlfriend's car was chagrined when the vehicle was stolen in Flossmoor, but the car was quickly recovered, police said. The man told police he parked his girlfriend's 2002 Dodge Neon in the 15000 block of Heather Hills Crescent shortly before midnight Saturday and hid the keys under the driver's seat. The man also stated that he had cracked the windows. He said he left $100 in a wallet in the car, and a passenger left $200 in the car. The car was discovered abandoned with the engine running, and fingerprints were being processed, police said.

Burning Bush on Ballantrae Way

A Flossmoor woman was startled to see a "very large fire" in her neighbor's yard early Saturday morning, police said. When an officer investigated the report of a blaze in the 3800 block of Ballantrae Way, the officer discovered a bush with some embers at its base. A 16-ounce container of oven cleaner was discovered at the site of the extinguished fire, police said.

Flossmoor Woman Receives Threat by Text

A Flossmoor woman told police that a chance meeting with a Hazel Crest man has led to telephone and text harassment. After meeting the man two months ago at a Hazel Crest hair salon, the woman entered the man's number into her phone and later dialed it accidentally, according to the report. That apparently emboldened the man to make repeated phone calls and become increasingly angry when she did not respond, the woman told police. The woman showed a text message she said was from the man, in which he texted, “ima shoot u and put yo fat (profanity) in a coma to then, na (profanity) and that’s a threat.”

THURSDAY, AUG. 4

Elderly Man Says He Was Threatened by Son

An elderly Flossmoor man told police he was threatened by his son, who he said has psychological problems, according to a police report. The son became convinced that his father had failed to pay him $20 for work, although the father said he did pay him, police said. When police arrived at the man's address, the younger man continued to insist he was owed payment, police said. The son has a court date on domestic violence charges.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 27

Woman Troubled by Mystery Gloves

A Flossmoor woman was troubled to find what she believes is evidence of a car burglar's designs on her cars. The woman, who lives in the 900 block of Elm Street, told police that between July 25 and July 27, she discovered a pair of gloves on her front porch, a second pair on a shrub and a third pair on a car parked in her driveway. She said she also found a pair of sunglasses on her property that did not belong to anyone in the family. The items were placed into evidence.
