Flossmoor Police Warn Residents of Ruse Burglaries

A common burglary scheme has struck one Flossmoor resident's home, prompting police to ask for help in locating the culprits.

On July 18, around 5 p.m., a Flossmoor resident in the 2700 block of Hawthorne Lane got up to answer the door bell. At the door stood a mustachioed, middle-aged man dressed in street clothes. Another man sat in a grey minivan parked in the driveway.

The man at the door said he was hired by the neighbor to install a fence, and that it required him to check the resident's backyard for specifications. The resident agreed, and took the man through the home to the backyard. While the resident was distracted in the backyard, the other suspect in the van burglarized the home.

The scheme is called a ruse burglary, and the main targets are the elderly.
