Harvey Woman Makes Unusual Shopping Trip in Homewood: Police

Suspended and Drug Possession

Diante Reed, 21, of the 17300 block of Wooded Path in East Hazel Crest was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license after police saw him driving on near the intersection of Governors Highway and 183rd Street and ran his plates, according to the report. Police saw Reed's license had been suspended and stopped him in the 17900 block of Governors. Reed was unable to provide valid proof of insurance or a driver's license, police said. After taking Reed into custody, police searched his vehicle to find 0.4 grams of a leafy substance that later tested positive for cannabis, according to the report. Reed racked up an additional charges of no insurance and received a citation for possession of cannabis, police said.

Stolen Games

Paul Tunstall, 29, of the 17500 block of Western Avenue, was arrested and charged with retail theft after a Super K-Mart employee told police she saw him on the surveillance camera cutting open Nintendo DS video games and putting them in his pocket. After Tunstall was stopped after he walked beyond the last point of purchase and was detained until police arrived. The games had a total value of just under $60, according to the report.

Theft from Menards

A man was detained by security officers at Menards on Halsted Street he was seen taking several electrical outlets beyond the last point of purchase without paying for them, according to the report. The man was issued a retail theft citation, along with a civil demand notice from Menards, and released at the scene. The outlets were valued at about $16, according to the report.

Shoplifting Spree?

Sheri Spencer, 40, of the 14400 block of Peoria in Harvey, was arrested and charged with retail theft after a security officer at Super K-Mart told police she saw Spencer enter a dressing room carrying long underwear and gray slippers and exit without the items. The officer checked the dressing room and found opened packaging before observing surveillance footage to see that Spencer was wearing the long underwear and slippers, according to the report. Spencer then went to the jewelry section of the store and grabbed various pairs of earrings before removing them from their packaging and putting them in her ears, police said. She then went to the liquor aisle and concealed a bottle of vodka in the front pocket of her overalls. Spencer finally went to the checkout area and purchased one 32-ounce can of alcohol, according to the report. She was stopped as she attempted to leave the store and was detained until police arrived.
