Homewood Father with Toddler Charged in DUI

According to Homewood Police, a Homewood father was charged with Driving Under the Influence with his toddler son in the car last Friday.

A 42-year-old Homewood father was charged with Driving Under the Influence with his toddler son in the car on Friday, June 10, according to Homewood Police.

David R. Banks, of the 17700 block of Dixie Highway, was stopped by police on Dixie Highway. The officer noted that Banks had poor balance, his eyes were bloodshot, his breath had a strong odor of alcohol and his 3 1/2-year-old son was in the back seat, according to the report. Banks told the officer he had consumed only one beer, police said.

When asked to take a field sobriety test, Banks responded, "I can't do this test." When police asked Banks why, he responded, "You know why," police said.

DCFS was notified, and the toddler was released to his mother, police said.

Banks also was charged with driving without headlights, no insurance, failure to secure a child and endangering the life of a child. Banks is scheduled to appear June 29 in Markham Court.
