Man Asks for Heroin 'Heart Medicine'

A Hickory Hills man faces drug charges after asking Homewood police to hand him a bottle containing heroin, according to a police report. Anthony Ragan, 38, of the 9000 block of Meadowview Drive, was pulled over around 12:23 a.m. after officers ran his plates and found his driver’s license had been suspended, police said. After he was taken into custody, Ragan requested his "heart medicine" from his white Ford Explorer, police said. An officer found an orange pill bottle, and enclosed in it was a clear plastic bag containing a white powder, which field-tested positive for heroin, according to the report. The officer also found white powder inside a plastic bag stuffed inside a Marlboro cigarette package in the Explorer, police said. Ragan was charged with one count of drug possession. 

Riverdale Woman Arrested in Hoosier Hot Wheels

A 34-year-old Riverdale woman was arrested after police caught her driving a stolen Oldsmobile from Highland, Ind., police said. Diana M. Wallace, of the 14400 block of Normal Avenue, told police that her "Uncle Andre" had lent her the car, but she had no insurance or registration, and officers noted that a towel was wrapped around the car's damaged steering column. Wallace asserted that her uncle was forced to start the car with a screwdriver after a relative damaged it, but the car's owner told police she did not loan out her car and wanted to press charges, according to the report. Wallace is charged with one count of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in Markham Court on Aug 8.

FRIDAY, JULY 8

Evicted Woman Breaks Back Into Residence

A Homewood woman evicted by Cook County Sheriff’s police got back into her former home illegally, police said. Earnesto D. Williams, 39, who once lived at the residence in the 2400 block of Hawthorne Road, was evicted July 7 and locked out, according to the report. Police called to the address reviewed paperwork and verified that a lawful eviction had taken place and tried unsuccessfully to get Williams to come to the door, the report said. They then entered the building using a new key, but Williams refused to leave and became combative, refusing to put her hands behind her back, police said.

Williams was charged with criminal trespass to property and resisting a peace officer. A copy of the eviction notice and a no trespass notice were recovered from a garbage can in utility room and entered into evidence, according to the report. Williams had no listed address other than the Hawthorne Road property, police said.

Homewood Grandmother: Grandsons Stole $10K of My Jewelry

A Homewood grandmother told police she suspects her own two grandsons in a home theft of some $10,000 in jewelry. The elderly woman said she left her home in the 18000 block of Homewood Avenue to go to an area health club, then returned to discover several pieces of fine jewelry missing from her jewelry box and her adult daughter's dresser drawer. Her grandsons were home at the time and she believes they took the fine jewelry, a suspicion shared by her daughter—the boys' mother—according to the report. The items are described as: one white, gold wedding ring and wedding band consisting of one square diamond on the ring and multiple small diamonds on the band, valued at $5,000; one gold ring with a small diamond, $2,000; one 20-inch gold chain with a small diamond, $800; one gold chain bracelet, $500; one gold ring, $500; one gold, flat necklace, $1,500; and one tennis bracelet, $250. The total loss was given as $10,550. There was no sign of forced entry to the residence, police said. The case remains under investigation.

THURSDAY, JULY 7

Man Drives Almost a Decade with No License

A Country Club Hills man was charged with felony driving on a suspended driver’s license after police say he told them he hasn't had a license in 10 years. Quincy Trainer, 28, of the 4100 block of W. 193rd Street, was pulled over around 6:46 a.m., police said. Trainer, behind the wheel of a white Pontiac, then told officers he hasn't had a driver's license in almost 10 years, according to the report.

Chicagoan Watched with Watch

Curtis Walker, 54, of the 900 block of E. 85th Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft after a store loss prevention agent reported that he observed Walker remove a Sharp analog watch from a shelf at Kmart, 17550 Halsted St., and leave the building without paying. The watch was priced at $19.99.

Homewood Man Found with Cannabis in Sock

A 23-year-old Homewood man was charged with possession of cannabis after an officer found it in his left sock, police said. Jerome Williams, of the 1300 block of 190th Street, was pulled over near Riegel and Birch roads after an officer noted his rear plate light was out, police said. The officer then noted an odor of cannabis and asked if there was something in the car, at which point Williams said there was not but consented to a search, according to the report. The officer then found a clear plastic bag with a green leafy substance in Williams' left sock, police said.

SUNDAY, JULY 3

Target Employee Caught on Tape, Now Unemployed

A 19-year-old Dolton woman is facing theft charges and unemployment after police say she stole from her employer, the Target store at 17605 Halsted St. Galicia Malone, of the 14000 block of Woodlawn Avenue, is charged with stealing during the period of June 19 to July 3, police said. The store's closed-camera surveillance system captured instances during which Malone concealed items and walked out without paying, according to the report. The total value of the stolen merchandise was listed as $160.16, police said. Malone is scheduled to appear in Markham Court on Aug. 5.
