SATURDAY, APRIL 23

Teens 'Forget' Their Names, Phones, Addresses

Two teenagers picked up by police around 3 a.m. near the 2000 block of Ridge Road initially would not give their names, addresses or phone numbers, police said. However, once the teens arrived at the Homewood police station, their "amnesia" was miraculously cured, at which point officers called their parents to come get them. According to the Homewood municipal code, teens are in violation of curfew if they are out between 12:01 a.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Saturday, and between 12:01 a.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Sunday. On weekdays, teen curfew begins at 11 p.m.

Workout, Search for Bag, File Police Report

A Homewood woman was disappointed to discover that someone stole her book bag while she was working out at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet & Fitness Club on Saturday. The woman told police the bag contained her wallet, car keys and house keys.

Should've Taken It to Lost & Found

A Thornton, Indiana, woman was waiting for her son to come out of the fitting room at Kmart, when she got distracted and left her wallet unattended, police said. The store's video surveillance system showed another mother spying the wallet, then placing items on it in an attempt to conceal it, according to police records. That mother was then recorded on video leaving the rear of the building with the first woman's wallet. The theft victim told police her wallet contained her driver's license, a Carson's card, a Social Security card and $700. No one has yet been charged, police said.

Wants Purse Returned to Sender

A Homewood woman was dismayed to discover that her purse was stolen from her parked car while she ran an errand Friday inside the post office. The purse is described as a brown Vera Bradley handbag with matching wallet, also containing prescription glasses, three credit cards and other valuables. 

Kmart Employee on Security Tape

A manager at Kmart, said a store employee was spotted putting "multiple" items inside her coat and then leaving the store without paying for them. Rosa Estrada, 57, of the 14000 block of S. Division Street in Posen, who was employed at that Kmart store, now has a May 19 court date in Markham Court. The total value of the items taken was given as $21.94.

Necklace Stowed Away in Bra

Kmart store security officers Friday also saw a teenager take a necklace from a store display and conceal it by tucking it into her bra, police said. The girl left the store without paying for the jewelry in her undergarments and was then detained by a store security officer, police said. The teen was accompanied at the store by a legal guardian, who was evidently unaware of the theft, police said. The necklace was valued at $29.99.

He's Not Here, Stop Chunking the House

A Homewood woman said the glass front door of her residence was shattered by a rock thrown by a woman who claimed to be dating her nephew, according to police. The woman returned home and discovered the glass storm door broken by a rock, with the interior glass door also damaged, police said. The cost is estimated at $1,000. The woman told investigators this is not the first time the house, which is owned by her sister, has been damaged. She added that her nephew is currently away at college. 

TUESDAY, APRIL 19

Impounded Owner

A Dolton man trying to get his car out of impound was arrested at the Homewood Police Department after presenting a false insurance card, police said. Quincy O. Jenkins, 30, of the 14000 block of Kenwood Avenue in Dolton, told police it was his mother-in-law's fault that his insurance card was false, police said.  That rationale evidently was not effective with police, as Jenkins now has a May 20 court date. 

Rampage on Rampage

A Homewood woman was arrested for one count of domestic battery after allegedly striking her boyfriend and breaking his glasses, police said. Asaia L. Rampage, 45, of the 1500 block of 183rd Street, had an argument with her 48-year-old boyfriend in which he was struck on the right side of the face and his glasses broken after they fell to the floor, police said. 

Tide Me Over

A Posen woman was arrested after a Jewel store security officer saw her place her purse over two bottles of Tide detergent in her cart, then leave the grocery store without paying, police said. Elizabeth C. Jones, 35, of the 14000 block of Richmond Avenue in Posen, faces a retail theft charge, police said.
