Homewood Police Blotter: String of Vehicle Burglaries and Two DUIs

Homewood police reports, Sept. 8-11

SUNDAY, SEPT. 11

Retail Theft from Kohl’s

Tanita Lones, 34, of the 16000 Sawyer in Markham, was charged with retail theft (class 3 felony), retail theft (class 4 felony), contributing to the delinquency of a minor and retail theft/fraudulent return after she engaged her juvenile daughter and niece in a free shopping spree of items totaling about $1,710 at Kohl’s, 17620 Halsted St., police said.

Car Doors Damaged

A patron at Rover’s Run dog park, 1022 191st St., reported both driver’s side doors of her car were scratched sometime between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Squealing Tires and Cannabis

Anthony Johnson, 19, of the 1700 block of Pine, was charged with illegal squealing of tires and possession of cannabis (less than 30 grams), after a traffic stop at 7:42 p.m. on the 18100 block of Highland Avenue.

Black Paint on Vehicle

Sometime between 3 p.m. Sept. 11 and 12:11 a.m. Sept. 12, someone threw black paint on the rear window and tailgate area of a vehicle parked in a driveway on the 17900 block of Riedle Court, according to a report.  

String of Burglaries to Motor Vehicles

  • A resident of the 18400 block of Gottschalk reported that sometime between 10:30 p.m. Sept. 11 and 7:15 a.m. Sept. 12, someone entered her unlocked vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, and took an ipod, a GPS and $15 cash and change.
  • A resident on the 18300 block of Page Court reported that sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sept. 12, someone entered an unlocked car parked on the street and took a CD case containing 100 CDs, a custom Cubs jersey, a carton of cigarettes and seven precision measuring hand tools.
  • A resident of the 18500 block of Ashland told police that sometime between 11 p.m. Sept. 11 and 7 a.m. Sept. 12, someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway and took a GPS, a mini laptop computer, a laptop case and a black leather bag.
  • A resident of the 18300 block of Marshfield reported someone took $6 in change and two CDs from his car while it was parked in his driveway between 11 p.m. Sept. 11 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 12.
  • A laptop and case was reportedly stolen sometime between 9 p.m. Sept. 9 and 7 a.m. Sept. 12 from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway on the 900 block of Holbrook Road.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 10

DUI

David Riebock, 34, of the 1400 block of 183rd Street, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving under the influence, having a blood-alcohol level of .08 or more, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Riebock was involved in a crash with a fully marked police vehicle, the report said. He failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of .241, the report said. Riebock refused treatment.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 9

DUI

Sarah McKinsey, 32, of the 3800 block of W. 15th Street in Markham, was charged with speeding, driving under the influence, and having a blood-alcohol level more than .08 after a traffic stop at around 3 a.m. at 183rd Street and Governors Highway. McKinsey failed field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of .152, the report said.

Copper Piping Stolen from Home

A resident on the 1300 block of East Lyn Court reported that sometime between Aug. 29 and Sept. 9, someone stole copper piping from the home. Twenty feet of one-inch, 10 feet of half-inch, and 20 feet of three-quarter inch galvanized copper piping was cut from the boiler, the report said. No forced entry was observed.

Retail Theft at Kmart

Leonard Woodson, 25, of the 6300 block of S. Carpenter Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. Store security at Kmart, 17550 Halsted St., told police Woodson was seen walking to the register with a full cart of items and then he put all of the items on the conveyor belt except for a bottle of prenatal vitamins, which he pushed to the rear of the cart and concealed with a full bag of items.

Theft from Safe at Target

An employee at Target, 17605 Halsted St., was arrested after store security reported seeing him remove $220 from a safe and conceal it inside his pants pocket. Todd Hansen, 40, of the 17000 block of Lorenz in Lansing, turned the money over to security when questioned, and he was charged with theft.

Bike Stolen

A bicycle valued at $150 was reported stolen at about 7:30 p.m. from a park at 183rd Street and Cherry Creek Drive. A group of juveniles were playing at the park when another group walked up to the area and one of them rode off on the unlocked bike, the report said. The offender was described as a black male with a blue and white striped shirt and jeans. He left southbound on the bike, a bright gold Trek with black pegs, a blue bike chain and a “Family Guy” sticker on it, according to the report.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 8

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

Several items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the Metra lot between 7:45 a.m. and 4:37 p.m. A Nintendo DS, nine DS games and $20 in loose change were missing, according to the report. There were no signs of forced entry and the owner didn’t know if the vehicle was left unlocked, the report said.
