Homewood Woman Charged After 3-Car Accident

According to the Homewood Police Department, Jane Strother was charged with failure to yield right of way after she was involved in a three-car collision at the intersection of 183rd and Kedzie on March 11.

According to the Homewood Police Department, Jane Strother, 67, of the 3200 block of Mallard in Homewood was charged with failure to yield right of way. The charge comes in response to the  Strother was involved in on March 11 at the intersection of 183rd Street and Kedzie Avenue.

Strother was exiting from a parking lot at approximately 1:30 p.m., heading westbound on 183rd St. when she clipped the vehicle of Homewood-resident Michael Wicks, 43, as he was heading westbound on 183rd St., according to police.

Homewood Police said the collision knocked Wicks into the eastbound lane of 183rd and sent Strother’s vehicle across the median into the incoming, eastbound lane of 183rd St. where she struck driver Shawnelle Haynes, 43, of Country Club Hills head-on.

Police Chief Larry Burnson said Homewood firefighters needed to use the "jaws of life" to extract Haynes and a juvenile from Haynes' vehicle. The juvenile was said to be in stable condition, according to the police. 

Police said Wicks was able to walk from his vehicle to the ambulance. Both Haynes and Strother were taken away in stretchers, according to police.
