Hot Dogs Land Owners in Hot Water

The owner of a large Rottweiler received a citation for animal cruelty after he left his dog in a parked car on a hot day. 

The temperature inside the car reached 90 degrees, and the dog appeared to be in distress, police said. The owner exited the Target store five minutes after the police entered the vehicle and gave the dog water.

Later that day, at 1:05 p.m., police were called to the parking lot of K-Mart, 17550 Halsted Street, where someone left a white, long-haired dog in a black Jeep with one window open approximately two inches. Police said the dog appeared “very lethargic.” The outside temperature at the time was 98 degrees. Police estimated the temperature inside the vehicle could have been as high as 114 degrees to 124 degrees. The dog seemed to be fine after taking water, police said. The dog’s owner was cited, police said.
