Flossmoor Police Bust High School Candy Crime Ring

Six boys ranging in age from 14 to 16 were arrested though charges have yet to be filed in juvenile court.

arrested half a dozen H-F High School students last week, busting what they believe was a ring of candy thieves.

Six boys ranging from 14 to 16 years old were arrested on the morning of Nov. 16, though charges have yet to be filed in juvenile court. Police expect varying charges for the boys, including possession of stolen property, criminal trespassing and theft.

They’re accused of repeatedly stealing candy, energy drinks and other snacks from a pharmacy across the street from H-F High School and selling it to their classmates.

A pharmacy employee told police that several of the boys were seen putting candy and energy drinks into their backpacks around 7 a.m. According to the police report, the boys fled the store when confronted by the employee and headed for class.

At the high school, one boy said he stole energy drinks and candy every day the week prior. But Deputy Chief Michael Pulec said investigators have reason to believe some of the boys have been stealing candy for the past month, keeping an eye out for the pharmacy’s less observant employees.

One boy, who was banned from the pharmacy in early October, was caught selling candy at school on Oct. 28, police said. He told police it was leftover Halloween candy.

Another boy admitted to stealing candy, noting that he needed the money to fix holes he punched in his bedroom wall.

And another was allegedly caught trying to dispose of the sugary evidence when police showed up. He told officers that he never stole candy but had been holding onto it for the others.

They were brought to the Flossmoor Police Station, and turned over to their parents, according to the report.

Police said they confiscated $98 worth of candy in total and returned it to the pharmacy.

The boys were issued trespass warnings for the pharmacy.
