'I'm Drunk, Brother,' Says Driver to Cop: Homewood Police Blotter

Homewood police reports, Feb. 11-13

MONDAY, FEB. 13

Possession of Cannabis

Cornell Peters, 20, of the 3200 block of 83rd Place in Chicago was charged with possession of cannabis, no valid license and driving without headlights. Police said they stopped Peters’ car at Dixie Highway and Cedar Road shortly after midnight for driving without lights. A search of his belongings listed four bags containing 2.5 grams in total.

Switchblade Found

Angelo Pisterzi, 26, of the 200 block of 10th Street in Chicago Heights was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, no insurance, expired registration and driving on a suspended license. Police said they found a switchblade in Pisterzi’s pocket after stopping his car at 187th Street and Gottschalk Avenue around 4 a.m. for driving with expired registration. Officers reported finding a pipe with residual marijuana after towing his car.

Obstructing Justice

Joe Johnson, 47, of the 7500 block of Langley Avenue in Chicago was charged with obstructing justice and arrested on an outstanding Country Club Hills warrant for failure to appear in court. Police said Johnson initially refused to exit his friend's car after it was stopped at 175th Street and California Avenue around 9 p.m. Once outside, while attempting to pat him down, Johnson struggled with officers by refusing to keep his hands on the car's trunk, according to the report.

SATURDAY, FEB. 11

DUI Following Minor Accident

Alfred Lazo, 54, of the 9100 block of Crandon Avenue in Chicago was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, no insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid accident. Police said Lazo bumped another car at Ridge Road and Ashland Avenue around 6:45 p.m. He was arrested after refusing to take field sobriety tests, because, as he reportedly told an officer, “I’m drunk, brother.” No one was transported to the hospital.
