Indiana Pair Found with Sedative, Heroin: Blotter

A man and a woman from Indiana face drug charges from a traffic stop earlier this month, according to police.

Two people from Gary, Indiana, face drug charges after Homewood police stopped their truck on July 2.

Gabor Keller, 22, of the 5100 block of 45th Avenue, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and improperly displaying registration, according to a Homewood police report. Tracy Stevens, 29, of the 5900 bloc of 39th Street, was a passenger in Keller's truck. She also is charged with possession of a controlled substance, along with possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal damage to property.

Keller was the driver of a red truck police spotted at about 8:02 p.m. in the 2000 block of 183rd Street, police said. The truck did not have its registration plate displayed properly and was stopped.

Police asked to search the vehicle and allegedly found 3 white pills that were wrapped in tinfoil near on the driver's side, according to the report. They also discovered a needle on the passenger side floor board.

The pair was arrested and taken to the Homewood Police Department. Police said Stevens urinated on the floor of the station while in custody.

At the police department, a search of Stevens underwear turned up a plastic bag containing 63 smaller red, Ziplock baggies. Those small bags contained a white and brown rock-like substance that police suspected was heroin.

The pills recovered from the truck were identified as Lorazepam, which is a sedative, according to the report. A field test confirmed that the 7.5 grams of the rock-like substance was heroin.

Police report information is provided by the Homewood Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
