Homewood Police Reports: Sept. 9 to Sept. 16

FRIDAY, SEPT. 16

Liquor Lifted

Calvin Gassoway, 20, of the 16000 block of Richmond in Markham, and Trinity Barber, 29, of the same address, were charged with retail theft after security at Kmart reported seeing them put various liquor bottles into their backpacks at about 7:20 p.m. A bottle of Hennessy and two bottles of Patron, valued at about $186, were recovered from Gassoway and two bottles of Grey Goose and two bottles of Hennessy, valued at about $260, were recovered from Barber, the report said.

Wallet Taken from Vehicle

A woman reported that sometime between 11:55 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., someone stole her wallet, which was on the front passenger seat in her unlocked car parked on the 18000 block of Dixie Highway. The wallet contained a Social Security card, two credit cards, a debit card and two currency exchange cards, the report said.

DUI

Kristen Vegter, 21, of the 8200 block of Harrison Avenue in Munster, Ind., was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, blood alcohol concentration over .08, failure to provide proof of valid insurance and improper lane usage after a traffic stop just before 1 a.m. at 183rd Street and Gladville. Vegter had a blood alcohol concentration of .144, police said.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 15

Pirated Movies, Music, Clothing and Purses

Vincent Wallace, 44, of the 1000 block of Lois Place in Joliet, was charged with violating the counterfeit trademark act and possession of stolen property. Police said they pulled Wallace over at about 12:40 a.m. on the 18600 block of Morris Avenue and found a large container of DVDs and CDs that were titled with a black magic marker. A search of Wallace’s vehicle turned up 245 movie DVDs, 301 music CDs, 23 counterfeit purses and seven hats and scarves, the report said.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 14

Tires Slashed

Three tires on a vehicle parked at a residence on the 18800 block of Carson Drive were reported slashed at around 4:25 a.m.

MONDAY, SEPT. 13

Burglary from Garage

A resident on the 1400 block of Evergreen reported that sometime between 8 p.m. Sept. 11 and 1 p.m. Sept. 13, someone entered his detached garage through an unlocked overhead door and took his electric miter saw, valued at $250.

Grill Gone

A resident of the 1900 block of Evergreen reported that sometime between 9:30 p.m. Sept.  12 and 7 a.m. Sept. 13, someone took his Weber Spirit grill, valued at $600, from his fenced backyard. 

FRIDAY, SEPT. 9

Possession of Controlled Substance

Sean McGuire, 33, of the 21000 block of Carol Avenue in Sauk Village, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop at around 9:50 p.m. on the 18500 block of Reigel Road. Police reported that McGuire was in possession of a cannabis cigarette, which he told police was laced with phencyclidine (PCP).
