Man Beaten and Robbed on 187th Street: Blotter

Homewood police reports, Dec. 7-11

Priceless Turtle Decoration Stolen

Someone stole a metal turtle decoration from the front stoop of a Homewood resident’s apartment on the 1900 block of Hickory Road, according to police.  The owner told police on Dec. 11 that the turtle was stolen sometime between 8 a.m. on Nov. 17 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 18. Police say the metal turtle was painted green with a few white paint spots. It also has a secret compartment under its shell, which lifts up when the head is stepped on, according to reports. The owner of the turtle told police it was a priceless possession, according to the report.

Possession of Marijuana

Police pulled a woman over on the 1100 block of Birch Road just before 2:30 a.m. after running her plates and discovering her vehicle is not registered to this area, according to reports. Police searched the car after detecting the smell of marijuana, reports say. A metal grinder with marijuana in it and a plastic bag of marijuana were recovered, totaling two grams of marijuana total, reports say. Police issued the woman a citation for possession of marijuana, according to the report.

Man Beaten and Robbed

A man was beaten and robbed on the 1700 block of 187th Street at 9:45 p.m., according to police. The man said he parked his car a block east of the 187th Street party he was going to and began walking over when a group of unknown black juveniles jumped him, according to reports. Police say the assailants threw the man to the ground and beat him with both hands and feet. One of the attackers reached into the man's pocket and robbed him of his possessions and then they fled, according to the report.

Police report information is provided by the Homewood Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.

>> Priceless Turtle Decoration Stolen The owner of the turtle told police it was a priceless possession Too bad, crooks will help themselves to anything not nailed down and even then, they have crowbars...Probably not a good idea to leave it outside on an apartment stoop if it was really a "priceless possession".
May Day December 19, 2012 at 01:47 AM
There are not only black jouviniles roving the streets o homewood causing harm; delinquents come in all colors - white, black, brown and in between. Lets not insinuate a generalization.
Paula December 19, 2012 at 11:52 AM
About a week after Thanksgiving I also had several decorations stolen from my yard and porch (a gargoyle, gnome and metal cat.) I've had things out for several years with no problems until recently. I was wondering if anyone else had anything taken :(

"Police pulled a woman over ... after running her plates and discovering her vehicle is not registered to this area". What? What sort of stupid excuse is that for detaining someone and searching their car? Goodbye roadtrip.
Dinkum December 19, 2012 at 05:48 PM
Yes, delinquents come in all sizes and shapes. But there is no generalization about the compelling, unfavorable crimes statistics around blacks with respect to robbery (see Chicago Police Dept. 2009 report). Look at the data May Day.
Taralynn Taylor December 19, 2012 at 06:40 PM
The fact that you had a gargoyle, gnome and metal cat on your porch is the real crime here.
Taralynn Taylor December 19, 2012 at 06:43 PM
Would you feel better if they were white juveniles?
Juvenal December 19, 2012 at 07:07 PM
Attention HPD: If you are going to pull someone over without reasonable suspicion, at least make sure your false pretext for the stop would be proper (weaving, broken tail light, even something hanging from the rear view mirror will do.) "They weren't from around here" won't cut it in court. C'mon, don't they teach this in Lazy/Crooked Cop 101 any more????

Taralynn: Rude.
guntar666 December 20, 2012 at 02:14 AM
I almost got robbed in homewood on 175th and dixie but i fought em off kids or not they wanna act tough ill beat the shit out of all of em
Juvenal December 20, 2012 at 06:48 PM
Persons who give up liberty for security deserve neither liberty or security. Bad police work reduces liberty while adding no security.
Paula December 20, 2012 at 07:43 PM
Taralynn: Get a life. I could care less if you like my taste in decor or not.
Jennifer December 20, 2012 at 09:00 PM
White juveniles just grow up to create massacres and kill six year olds. Not so great when the stereotype is against you and your [future] children, now is it?
Dinkum December 20, 2012 at 11:56 PM
Illusory correlation Jennifer. My guess is you don't know what that means, so look it up as it relates to "white juveniles" committing mass murder. Now let's get back to the topic at hand. Blacks, robbery, and the crime statistics. See my previous post and the Chicago report. Once you have done your statistical research, then post something that might be worth reading.
Taralynn Taylor December 25, 2012 at 03:39 AM
Paula: Yeah I should probably get a life. You what I need? A hobby. I could start collecting gargoyles and gnomes. Cause THAT'S what Homewood needs: Less crime / More gnomes.
Paula December 26, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Yes Taralynn, Homewood definitely needs less crime and more gnomes. You know what else we could use less of? Residents who think robbery and theft are a joke. It's probably someone you know who is responsible for the recent rash of crime Homewood has experienced, since this is all so amusing to you. Now run along and start that hobby.
Taralynn Taylor December 26, 2012 at 08:34 PM
Paula: Sweetie, relax. I don't find theft or robbery amusing. But your post about someone stealing your gargoyles and gnomes? Oh, and the metal CAT? THAT was amusing. Poor Paula. I'm sure they have more gnomes at the Flea Market. In the meantime, I'll speak with my criminal friends to see if anyone has seen a metal cat lying around.
Amber December 26, 2012 at 10:35 PM
Well, doll, Taralynn--aren't you a tough little thing behind a keyboard? You are not only immature and judgemental, but someone should have taken a metal hanger to you many years back, Sweetie.
Amber December 26, 2012 at 10:36 PM
Now go away and let the adults talk now.
Taralynn Taylor December 26, 2012 at 11:32 PM
Welcome to the conversation, "Amber". Just to be clear, I'm immature, judgmental and my parents should have beat me as a child. Got it.
Amber December 27, 2012 at 12:18 AM
Thank you, "Tara!". You ALMOST got it! Not beaten you, but eliminated you with a wire hanger. I see people commenting, and I wasn't sure what your intention was--humor, maybe? The world may never know. Now go make duck faces on Facebook.
Taralynn Taylor December 27, 2012 at 04:12 AM
Really "Amber" must you be so crass? We were discussing yard decor, not your choice of abortion methods back in the 70s. Your obsession with wire hangers tells me you sat on a number of them back in the day.
Amber December 27, 2012 at 01:46 PM
I thought the discussion was on theft, not "Taralynn's" taste in yard decor, but whatever. You're wasting my time with your failed attempt at amusement. Obsession...ha! Obviously your mom was obsessed with alcohol during her accidental mistake of a pregnancy. Unfortunately, it wasn't her preferred method to handle pregnancy in the 70's. :( Good day, lame idiot.
Taralynn Taylor December 27, 2012 at 02:05 PM
"Lame idiot"? What's up with the name calling hun? Look, you have a busy day ahead of you, teaching your granddaughter the wire hanger method, so have fun and enjoy the rest of what's left of your life. Paula, I'm sure, will find another gnome at Walmart.
Amber December 27, 2012 at 02:07 PM
Paula December 29, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Taralynn, your lame. Oh, and i'm sorry, I didn't realize you troll the HF Patch because you live on the Gold Coast! I would love to see what you call a residence. Anyways, your boring and I could care less what you think. I'm sorry that whoever/whatever raised you didn't teach you any manners, but I'm glad trolling fills a void in your life.. In the infamous words of Buzz Lightyear (you should get the reference, as this is about your maturity level) "You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity. Farewell!"
Taralynn Taylor December 30, 2012 at 02:51 AM
Did you really just quote Buzz Lightyear? Also, it's *You're... as in you're making this too easy for me. Anyway, I'm done. Paula, you've been a great sport. More power to you and your gnomes. xoxo
Paula December 31, 2012 at 12:22 AM
Before you start pointing out my typos, point out your own "hon." Run along loser, I hope your sickle cell takes you soon. Keep your kisses to yourself, I can only imagine where your crack lips have been.
