Man Charged in Alleged Drug Deal Shot and Killed in Homewood (Update)

A 19-year-old man accused in a June 14 drug deal was shot and killed Tuesday in Homewood.

Henry Kormoi of Homewood was pronounced dead at 11:47 p.m. at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, according to the Cook County medical examiner. He was shot close to his home near the intersection of 187th Street and Center Avenue.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Kormoi was arrested on June 14 and charged with delivering marijuana, according to a Homewood police report. Police reportedly spotted him and another man make a hand-to-hand exchange.

Official comment from Homewood police was not immediately available Wednesday morning.

Police are investigating the death of a man in Homewood.

The Cook County medical examiner was notified of the death in Homewood early Wednesday morning. The victim's identity has not been officially released.

Neighbors said they heard a gunshot at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of 187th Street and Center Avenue. A man in his late teens or early 20s was taken to South Suburban Hospital, according to people who knew the victim.

The incident comes as a shock to people in the neighborhood. A 38-year-old man who lives near where it happened said he had "never seen anything like this out here."
