SUNDAY, JULY 8

Flossmoor Boy Found

A boy presumed missing was found in Flossmoor just about the same time he was reported missing by his grandmother in the 2400 block of Clyde Street in Homewood. A couple residing on Perth Avenue in Flossmoor told police they were awakened around 1 a.m. by the sound of a child yelling or screaming outside their home. They went outside and found the child wearing a t-shirt and pajama bottoms; they brought him inside and called police. Moments later, Homewood police were notified about the missing Homewood youth, whose name and age were not released. After reuniting the boy and his grandmother, the woman told police their home was secure and she did not know how he got out.

DUI, Car Crashes

Nicholas Hampton, 27, of 1550 W. 187th St., Homewood, was charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. An eyewitness to the crash gave police Hampton’s license plate number. Hampton was arrested at his home at 7:58 a.m. after admitting he was too drunk to drive and telling police he did not remember what it was he hit. The vehicle Hampton drove struck a fire hydrant, uprooted a large shrub and left automobile debris scattered in front of two homes in the 1600 block of Pine Road. In custody, Hampton’s blood-alcohol concentration measured .259. He has a court date of August 20 at the Cook County Courthouse in Markham.

Stolen Health and Beauty Items

Derrick West, 46, 14512 Green Street, Harvey, was charged with felony retail theft and battery at 12:31 p.m. after he took health and beauty items with a retail value of $124.49 from a store in the 17700 block of Halsted Street. West wrestled, punched, kicked and scratched a loss prevention agent who tried to stop him, according to the police report. Police learned West was also wanted on a Harvey Police Department warrant for a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

FRIDAY, JULY 6

Stolen Cologne

A man took numerous bottles of Tim McGraw brand cologne valued at $450 from a store in the 17600 block of Halsted Street. The man, whose name police did not release, ransacked a section of the fragrance shelf and ran out of the store carrying a white trash bag that contained the cologne, police said. The value of the theft was $450, police said.

THURSDAY, JULY 5

Unlicensed Jewlery Peddler

A man, whose name was not released by police, was cited for peddling merchandise without a license in the area of Target and Home Depot on Halsted Street at 12:45 p.m. The offender told police he’d purchased much of the jewelry at a fashion store in Chicago for about $60 total. Police said they found approximately 100 pieces of costume jewelry marked with prices between $100 and $6,000.
