Passenger Tries to Jump from Moving Car, Driver Faces Gun Charge: Blotter

Unlawful Use Of A Weapon


Xavier Allen, 17, of the 300 block of Iris, Chicago Heights, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to a report. An officer was on patrol at about 10:16 p.m. near the intersection of Serena Drive and Holbrook Road and saw a car cross the double yellow road lines.

Police attempted to perform a traffic stop, during which a passenger tried to jump out of the moving vehicle, according to the report. Once the car was stopped, an officer patted down the driver and passengers.

An officer conducting a search of the car recovered a small black, semi-automatic handgun that was loaded with six live rounds, according to the report. Allen was arrested and charged with the felony.

TUESDAY, JUNE 4

Retail Theft


Shanique Harris, 21, of the 3400 block of Kings, Steger, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. She is accused of removing several pieces of baby sleepwear, outfits and a pair of sunglasses from displays at Kohl's, 17620 Halsted St., and leaving without paying.

A store employee followed her outside after allegedly watching her take the clothing and asked her to come back inside, according to the report. Harris reportedly responded by saying "I'm not coming back in" and left the parking lot. Homewood police eventually tracked her down.

The total value of the clothing is $146, according to the report. Harris is due on July 9 in Markham court.
