SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14

Deactivated iPhone Stolen From Home

A woman from the 18400 block of Morris Ave. told police that a black Apple iPhone 4 was stolen from the kitchen table in her home sometime between 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 13 and 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 14. According to the report, the phone did not have service because the woman had replaced it with a new phone. She told police she suspected a friend of a friend in the matter, saying that he had been in the house on the evening of Oct. 13 and had access to the kitchen area.

Rodney Latimer, 27, of the 8400 block of South Colfax Ave. in Chicago, was arrested and charged with retail theft at the Jewel Osco at 3153 183rd St. after Jewel Security saw him put $66.82 worth of liquor into a plastic bag and attempts to leave the store without paying, He was held by Jewel Security until Homewood Police arrived, at which point he was taken to Homewood PD and processed. He was charged with retail theft, transported to Markham lock up and given a Nov. 30 court date.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 15

Purse Stolen From Unlocked Car

A woman from the 18800 block of Ashland Ave. told police that an unknown offender had entered her unlocked vehicle while it was parked in her driveway between 5 and 6 p.m. and stolen her purse, which contained her driver's license, three credit cards, a debit card, and $85 in cash. She told police she would contact her bank and credit card company and let the HPD know if she discovered any unauthorized charges.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16

Woman Charged With Battery After Kicking Husband

Valerie Givens Cheatham, 43, was arrested and charged with domestic battery after an argument with her husband at their home on the 2800 block of Willow Road. Her husband told police that they were arguing when Cheatham removed a pair of glasses from his face, broke them, and threw them somewhere in the house before beginning to kick him in the back. At this point, the victim went outside and called the police. He refused medical attention, telling police that his back was a little sore but that he would be all right. Cheatham was arrested and charged with one count of domestic battery before being transferred to Markham court for a bond hearing.
