Police Nab Alleged Homewood Bike Thief

Police arrested a man responsible for stealing bikes at the Homewood Metra stop.

Christopher Hurms, 46, of 653 Frances in Phoenix was charged with felony theft after police caught him stealing a bicycle from the Homewood Metra station bike racks on Aug. 10.

According to the report, an officer observed Hurms retrieve a pair of bolt cutters from his backpack before cutting the lock on a bike. Police said Hurms then took the bike and left the scene headed northbound. The officer followed Hurms, provoking him to reverse his direction of travel, according to the report. Police say they finally boxed in Hurms and he was arrested.

This comes as spectacular news to at least one Homewood resident, who posted this response on the H-F Patch Facebook page:
