Sexual Predator Reaches Out to Victim As 'A Changed Man': Homewood Police Blotter

Homewood police reports, March 31 - April 2

MONDAY, APRIL 2

Stolen Electronic Cigarettes

Vanessa Durham, 47, of the 17600 block of Arlington Lane in Hazel Crest was charged with retail theft. Security at a store in the 3100 block of 183rd Street told police that Durham left the store without paying for packages of electronic cigarettes totaling $199, around 3 p.m.

Domestic Fight

Trevia Montgomery, 39, of the 1100 block of Holbrook Road in Homewood was charged with domestic battery. A man told police that he and Montgomery were arguing in his home shortly before midnight on April 1 when she slashed his tires with a knife and in the struggle cut his arm. As he tried leaving, he told police, Montgomery threw a rock hitting his head and then threw a candle holder shattering his car window. He walked to the Homewood police station.

SUNDAY, APRIL 1

Sexual Predator Reaches Out to his Victim

A report was filed against a convicted sexual predator for attempting to make contact with the Homewood girl he abused more than 10 years ago. The mother of the girl told police that the man had sent her a message via Facebook, following a friend request to her daughter, on March 22 stating that he was “a changed man” and looking to make amends. The mother met with police after he messaged her again on April 1 in spite of her demand not to. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon. Police said the man served two years behind bars for his crime and does not live in Homewood.

SATURDAY, MARCH 31

Refusing to Go Peacefully

Orson Collins, 35, of the 300 block of Concord Drive in Chicago Heights was charged with driving under the influence, two counts of resisting a peace officer, no license, no proof of insurance and disobeyed traffic control signal. Police said Collins blew a red light at 183rd and Halsted streets and when stopped, his passengers jumped out of the car to say there was something mentally wrong with him. Collins thrashed his arms and legs wildly inside and outside the car, struggling to be taken into custody, according to the report.

Stolen Electric Scooter

Christopher Hucko, 40, of the 17300 block of Halsted Street in South Holland was charged with retail theft. Police said Hucko was caught trying to drive home with an electric scooter shopping-cart belonging to a store in the 17500 block of Halsted around 5:30 p.m. Hucko was taken to the police station and the cart was driven back to the store, police said.
