'Slow-Mo' Driver Charged With DUI

Nathaniel Leavitt, 33, of the 3700 block of 168th Street, Country Club Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failing to provide proof of insurance, failing to yield at an intersection and failing to notify the Secretary of Sate of an address change, according to a report. Leavitt was stopped at about 1:19 a.m. near 183rd Street and Dixie Highway after police saw him failing to come to a complete stop at an intersection. Police could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Leavitt moved as though he was in "slow motion," police said. He is due in Markham court on May 20.

Thief Snags Jeans, Gets Away

A thief took two pairs of jeans from a shelf in Kohl's, 17620 Halsted St., according to a report. Employees found security devices and tags from the jeans in a dressing room. The thief took off running when an employee tried to stop him. The suspect is described as a 5-foot, 10-inch, 175-pound black man, between 18 and 20 years old, who was wearing a blue hoodie underneath a black jacket, gym shoes and black knit hat.

Pair Charged With Retail Theft

Leannette Scott, 37, of the 22200 block of Yates Avenue, Sauk Village, and Ingrid Shoat, 45, of the 23400 block of Western Avenue, Park Forest, were charged with retail theft, according to a report. Scott is accused of taking $327.99 worth of items from Kohl's, 17620 Halsted St., including shorts, pants, sunglasses, sandals and a handbag. Scott is accused of taking $608.25 worth of items, including pants, jackets, a women's dress, swim wear and jewelry. They were seen by store employees at about 3:10 p.m. walking into a changing room with the items.
