Swiped Cigs Lead To Theft Charge

Phillip Williams, 42, of the 15600 block of Turlington Avenue in Harvey, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. He is accused of taking $35.07 worth of Newport cigarettes without paying at about 3:37 a.m. at K-Mart, 7550 Halsted St. An employee allegedly saw him hide the cigarettes in his sweatshirt pocket. Williams is due in Markham court on May 7.

Chicago Man Accused Of Panhandling

Kevin Rogers, 35, of the 6300 block of North Winthrop in Chicago, was charged with trespassing, according to a report. Rogers had been panhandling in front of Jewel, 3153 183rd St., for several days and was told not to return. When confronted, he allegedly became belligerent. Rogers is due in Markham court on May 8.

TUESDAY, APRIL 2

Coins, Gift Cards Stolen

Someone took loose coins and a variety of store gift cards from a possibly unlocked car door in the 1800 block of Highland Avenue, according to a report. The burglary happened sometime between 3:30 p.m. April 1 and 5:45 p.m. April 2. The victim did not know how much change was taken.
