tom haggerty March 11, 2013 at 03:16 PM

SouthSide March 11, 2013 at 05:25 PM
I bet it's a typo. Coach purses top off at $1,500, I think.
hometown March 11, 2013 at 05:26 PM
Wow..what type of neighbor notices your side door is "Damaged and open"... and doesn't think something is wrong and tells when you return! At least, call the police..do something! Likely somebody they know or agree with the scam idea; items that vaulable with no alarm system....strange.
SouthSide March 11, 2013 at 05:30 PM
I thought the same thing... I tell my neighbors when I'm going out of town, and they do the same. We call the police when we suspect mischief. Several thousand dollar coats? Lot of dead animals. Sad.

It pays to have an alarm and inform your good neighbors that you're in vacation. You can also inform the police dept. when you're going to be out if town they will do a drive by. Coach purses don't cost. 5k she must have had some Louis Vuttion's, or Hermes.

Hello, all! I'm checking this again with the police department. My notes say "each valued at $5,000" but I'm happy to check with the deputy chief. I'll post another comment after I talk with the department. Thanks!
Nick Swedberg (Editor) March 11, 2013 at 06:38 PM
Hello, Me again! I just confirmed with the Flossmoor deputy chief that the report does say the purses are valued at $5,000 each. Thanks for asking, everyone!
Brandon March 11, 2013 at 07:02 PM
Nick something fishy about that price. Lol
Nick Swedberg (Editor) March 11, 2013 at 07:06 PM
It does seem like a lot for a purse but I'm not an expert when it comes to pricing accessories. If new information about the incident surfaces, I'll let everyone know.
hometown March 11, 2013 at 07:31 PM
Sounds more and more like a scam! Assume at least $10k for 2 purses (which cost more than tv's and fur coats), modest neighborhood, extremely valuable items w/o alarm...neighbors nosey enough to notice damage, not nosey enough to call police....and on top off all that these random burglars just so happen to hit the only house loaded with these goods while residents on vacation!!! Imagine that, not saying impossible, but seems highly improbable.
FlossmoorMom March 12, 2013 at 01:55 AM
Coach purses aren't 5k...
FlossmoorMom March 12, 2013 at 01:55 AM
They're more like 200-500 each...
Nick Swedberg (Editor) March 12, 2013 at 02:28 AM
I'm told the investigating officer is going to do more work on the case. There are lots of possibilities and I don't want to jump to any conclusions. It could be that the incorrect number was used or that it was an unintentional overestimate.
D March 12, 2013 at 03:25 PM
I am a purse lover, and I know there are not any Coach bags that cost $5,000. Unless, they are some kind of crocodile skin which is rare. Now if it were an LV, Bottega Veneta, Chanel, or Hermes, now you are talking.
Nick Swedberg (Editor) March 12, 2013 at 03:33 PM
Well, it looks like I need to throw myself on my sword! While the price listed was correct, I read "Coach" when the police report actually had Chanel as the brand. Just got to see the report again a few minutes ago. My bad! I updated the blotter item above to have the correct brand name. Thanks for the comments!
Nicoleo March 13, 2013 at 03:59 AM
It says Chanel, not Coach...Chanel is very expensive
