'You Got Me' Says Alleged Check Forger: Blotter

A series of check forgeries at a Homewood store came back to bite a Chicago woman.

A 27-year-old Chicago woman faces several counts of forgery after a gift card stunt at T.J. Maxx in Homewood backfired on her.

Police say Shardai Banks, of the 4600 block of S. Evans in Chicago used counterfeit checks to purchase two $80 gift cards from T.J. Maxx on Dec. 11. The trick worked initially, but store security cameras caught her on tape which helped Homewood Police track her down at her Chicago address. When police confronted Banks, they found another forged check in her purse, according to reports.

Banks was taken into the station where she allegedly admitted “you got me,” during an interview. She was charged with three counts of check forgery.
