Apollo Park Will Remain Closed Through Wednesday

The H-F Park district is waiting on approval from the Illinois EPA to reopen Apollo Park and Rover's Run following the discovery of old rocket fuel chemicals at a nearby Army base.

Apollo Park and Rover's Run Dog Park will likely remain closed until next Wednesday, according to Park District Executive Director Debbie Kopas.

The two parks were forced to close on Wednesday afternoon, after containers of old rocket fuel chemicals were discovered underground during construction at the adjacent Army Reserve Center.

While cleanup actions were supposed to be completed by Thursday afternoon, the park district was advised to keep Apollo closed until the Illinois EPA approves the Army's response effort.
